Game show hosts' use of English on television embarrassing
| I WATCHED the Sheng Siong Show on Jan 5 and was very disappointed with the standard of English used by Kym Ng and her co-host.
On that particular night, there were several non-Chinese home viewers who were contacted by the duo, informing them that they had been selected for the game. Then, the home viewers were asked to choose one of four boxes: 'One, two, three, four...what you want?' Not only was the English used by Ng and her co-host atrocious, but they were also speaking at lightning speed, making it difficult for the home viewers to understand them. I am aware that this is a Chinese variety show, but Ng and her co-host sounded like six-year-olds speaking English. Singapore is supposed to be a first-world country, but the English used by our game show hosts on national television is embarrassing. We have many foreign students from various countries studying in Singapore. What would they think of our English standards when our local artists speak so badly on national television? I hope MediaCorp can look into this to save Singaporeans from ridicule. Leong Chee Fatt | |
