Public buses in need of a clean-up
I REFER to the letter, 'SMRT replies on bikes and dirty buses' (ST, Dec 25).

I am glad to hear that SMRT takes a serious view on the hygiene and cleanliness of its buses.

However, being a regular commuter on both the train and bus, I feel that the buses are still in need of a clean-up.

When I boarded bus service 67 from Sim Lim Square travelling in the direction of Choa Chu Kang on Jan 14, I noticed that there were cockroaches on the back seats of the bus.

A lady and her child actually alighted from the bus after a short ride down the road. They were just as shocked as I was, but laughed it off.

As much as I would like to laugh it off too, I am afraid that such incidents are not few and far between, especially on buses that ply long routes

My question to the bus operators: How exactly are your buses cleaned to ensure they are fit for daily public use?

Please enlighten me and the many other commuters on this. I think it is only fair, given that the Government has pledged to improve public transport this year.
