Full payment must be made by due date, otherwise interest-free benefit will no longer apply: Citibank
| I REFER to the letter, 'Cardholder charged interest also on partial amount that had been paid back' by Mr Vinay Asdhir (Online forum, July 23).
We would like to highlight that it is industry practice in Singapore for credit-card facilities to be offered with an interest-free repayment period for retail charges. However, if a cardholder does not make full payment by the due date, this benefit will no longer apply and daily interest will be assessed from each transaction date on all charges in that statement, as well as on charges posted after the statement date. Citibank's payment due date, which is set at 25 days after the statement date, offers one of the longest interest-free repayment periods in the market. We have since explained our interest-rate calculation structure to Mr Asdhir, and would like to thank him for his feedback. Adam Abdur Rahman Director, Corporate Affairs Citibank Singapore | |
