How about half-price tickets to cinemas, bird park on National Day?
I WOULD like to applaud Ms Usha Kumari for her brilliant suggestion to light up CBD buildings in view of the imminent National Day (ND) celebration on Aug 9.

Her suggestion, if implemented, would bring more life and fervour to the city when spectators are watching the National Day parade.

Even now, the Citizens' Consultative Committees (CCCs) and Residents' Committees (RC) are busy distributing free state flags to our HDB blocks and most of our residents have displayed the flags to usher in our ND which is just round the corner.

When you drive past schools, polyclinics, community clubs and churches, you will not fail to notice ND banners and buntings fluttering in the breeze.

It adds colour and a spirit of patriotism to our vibrant society during this time of the year.

To make ND more memorable, I suggest that cinemas and theatres (including the Durian) give a discount of 50 per cent to all patrons on all tickets on Aug 9 as a way to celebrate our ND.

Likewise, the Singapore Zoo , Jurong Bird Park and Sentosa Corporation could reduce all ticket prices by 50 per cent so that Singaporeans and visitors will remember that Aug 9 is an important date in our national calendar.

In line with government policy to promote family life, these places could also sell 'family tickets' (like the Australian family ticket) for a family of four at a special price on this auspicious day.
