Movie outing spoilt by inconsiderate patrons
FIRSTLY, I would like to express my gratitude to our local cinema management for providing excellent service to patrons and a splendid and comfortable environment for us to enjoy our movies in.

Kudos to them.

However, I am writing to appeal to our local cinema management personnel to be more proactive in ensuring that cinema patrons are aware of the right etiquette that needs to be observed when watching movies.

After all, the cinema is a place that is used by the general public, and it only takes a couple of inconsiderate patrons to ruin the pleasurable movie experience of the rest of us in the theatre.

Recently, my husband and I went to the Cathay cinema at Causeway Point to catch the movie Hot Fuzz after a long day at work.

Cathay Causeway Point has always been one of our favourite places to catch a movie due its prompt service and clean, cosy seats.

However, we had a very distasteful experience in the cinema that evening caused by three foreign patrons, who were totally inconsiderate.

We had to put up with three ang moh patrons who talked loudly and, despite the fact that we were sitting right in front of them, still chose to stretch out their legs and rest their feet on the seat directly next to mine.

I was taken aback by the move but chose to take the soft approach by glancing at them, but it seemed that they were totally ignorant of what they did wrong.

A few minutes later, I turned to politely request them to take their feet off the seats. Despite their silent acknowledgement, they did, but only to rest their feet back on the seats a few minutes later.

My husband and I were really disappointed and appalled by the whole incident, especially by the discourteous act of the ang moh patrons. Other patrons who were sitting in our row were equally upset as well, though they did not utter a word to the offenders.

Actually, that wasn't the first time that we have observed such rude acts by foreign cinema patrons, though it's the first time in a heartland cinema.

We had also seen such acts by teenage foreign cinema patrons in Lido Cineplex, who talked loudly and dirtied the theatres with food leftovers and even liquor bottles.
