Two hours for warm water to be served aboard flight
I HAD a bad experience on board Cathay Pacific Airways Flight CX735 during my recent trip to Hong Kong on May 20.

About 45 minutes after take-off, I wanted a cup of warm water. I pressed the call button for assistance, but no one came by to attend to me even after 30 minutes. In fact, I pressed the call button at least five times.

In addition, attempts to get the attention of stewardesses walking past was virtually impossible as they looked only straight ahead and I was seated near the window.

One and a half hours passed and still no service.

Finally, I made the request to an air stewardess who was serving Chinese tea to the passengers after dinner.

To my surprise, she answered curtly: 'I serve only Chinese tea'.

I politely asked if she could bring me a glass of warm water after she has finished serving her tea to the passengers, and she reluctantly agreed.

She never brought the water. It was only after two hours and pressing the call button six times that an air stewardess bothered to ask if I needed anything.

Again, I made my request, and I got a glass of room-temperature water immediately. She insisted that it was warm water when I repeated my request. I did not wish to argue with her further on this issue.

I would like to enquire about the service standard of Cathay Pacific. Are their staff trained to attend to customers' needs and requests?

What is the purpose of having a call button when none of their staff bothers to check if their customers need any help?

What I found most unforgiveable is that the staff actually switched the call button off without asking passengers if they require any assistance. Is this the service standard of an airline which boasts of a vision to be the most admired airline in the world by 'Providing service straight from the heart'?
