Asian stocks higher

TOKYO JAPANESE share prices closed up 1.31 per cent on Monday, tracking gains on Wall Street as investors reacted positively to news that the US economy lost fewer jobs than expected last month. The benchmark Nikkei-225 index climbed 133.83 points to 10,320.94. The broader Topix index of all first section shares gained 8.86 points, or 0.95 per cent, to 944.60. HONG KONG Hong Kong share prices closed 1.53 per cent higher on Monday, after Beijing announced new measures to boost market sentiment, dealers said. The benchmark Hang Seng Index finished 310.69 points higher at 20,629.31. Turnover was 63.97 billion Hong Kong dollars (S$11.7 billion). SHANGHAI Chinese shares closed up 0.68 per cent on Monday after Beijing announced a series of measures to boost market sentiment, dealers said. The Shanghai Composite Index, which covers A and B shares, was up 19.51 points to 2,881.12 on turnover of 146.7 billion yuan (S$30.8 billion). The Shanghai A-share index added 20.50 points, or 0.68 perc ent, to close at 3,023.69 on turnover of 146.4 billion yuan. The Shenzhen A-share index gained 11.52 points, or 1.13 per cent, to 1,028.48 on turnover of 77.8 billion yuan. KUALA LUMPUR Malaysian shares closed up 0.99 per cent on Monday on gains in finance, utility and property stocks, dealers said. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index gained 11.65 points to 1,190.39. Advancers outnumbered losers 466 to 212. | |
