| National Day Awards recognise various forms of merit and service to Singapore. This year, a total of 3514 individuals in 22 award categories received National Day honours.
Another 26 individuals and 5 organisations also received various National Day Awards and the President's Certificate of Commendation for their significant contributions towards the successful outcome of the Pedra Branca issue. FOR SPECIAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PEDRA BRANCA CASE: PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION MEDAL (Bronze) 'I am so glad that my 30 years of service to the environment is given due recognition. This is indeed a fantastic way to reward people for their services and I am proud to be counted among those NEA staff who have contributed much.'
PUBLIC SERVICE MEDAL 'The medal comes as a surprise and it is an endorsement that perhaps in some small way, I am making a difference. I have never been happier doing this work that I do. It is challenging, at times frustrating, but the satisfaction comes when I see the disabled young people whom we serve landing a good job or even taking a bus independently. Take for example, swimmer Theresa Goh. We have seen her blossom from a shy girl to a confident young lady.'
PUBLIC SERVICE MEDAL 'This award is really for everybody in the constituency. It takes a whole team to serve our residents.'
PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION MEDAL (Bronze) 'I am honoured to receive this award as it recognises the Singapore Prison Service's efforts in protecting society through the safe custody and rehabilitation of offenders. It is also testament to the confidence that Singaporeans have in the Service and their support in giving offenders the chance to restart their lives as responsible, contributing citizens. The award inspires my team and myself in our mission to build a safer home for all.'
