2nd convicted Texas killer on death row commits suicide in a week
HOUSTON - A CONVICTED murderer awaiting execution has killed himself in his cell, prison officials said.

William Robinson's suicide on Friday at a psychiatric facility came just three days after another condemned man killed himself in his death row cell.

Robinson used a sheet to hang himself from the vent in his cell, prisons spokeswoman Michelle Lyons said.

Officers resuscitated him, and he was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him brain dead and put him on life support. Lyons said Robinson's mother decided to terminate life support.

Robinson was convicted of capital murder for the 1985 shooting death of a man in a Houston apartment complex during a five-day crime spree.

Earlier last week, convicted killer Jesus Flores, who was sent to death row for killing a sheriff's deputy, committed suicide in his cell, prison officials said.

Robinson becomes the ninth condemned man in Texas to take his own life since the state's death row reopened in 1974. -- AP
