Each construction engineering team will be there for about three months - between May 3 and Oct 31, said the Ministry of Defence in a statement on Monday.

This deployment is part of Singapore's overall contribution the international humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan.

The teams will be working as part of the New Zealand Defence Force's (NZDF) Provincial Reconstruction Team in Bamiyan.

The SAF teams will supervise the building of a Regional Health Training Centre, which is meant to be a one-stop centre for the training of all healthcare workers in Bamiyan province.

This is not the first time for SAF teams in Bamiyan - the SAF has previously sent a five-man dental team and a five-man engineering team there with the NZDF for about three months each last year.
