Muis condemns Dutch Quran video
| THE Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (Muis) has condemned the production and release of the video 'Fitna' by Dutch Member of Parliament Geert Wilders.
In a statement released on Monday, Muis said the video aimed 'to incite hatred of Muslim immigrants among Europeans by including acts of violence that were committed by radicals'. 'It intentionally distorts verses from the Holy Quran in order to create fear of Muslims,' the statement added. Muis also said on Monday it supported the advice by Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng that freedom of expression does not give anyone the licence to insult another's religion or race. Going forward, Muis said it would continue to work with the Muslim community and leaders, as well as people of other faiths, to ensure that 'social cohesion and harmony remains resilient to such irresponsible acts'.
