Needy folk in Radin Mas get meal coupons
Scheme to provide at least one meal daily to 120 residents
By Melissa Sim

COME April 1, retired forklift driver Boon Thiam Fo, 85, will get to tuck into a hearty plate of chicken rice, his favourite food, every day if he wants to.

Under the Radin Mas Neighbourhood Meals Programme launched on Friday, 120 low-income residents in Radin Mas will get 30 meal coupons each month.

They can approach any of the 150 participating stalls in five hawker centres in the area to redeem their coupons for meals.

Radin Mas Citizens Consultative Committee chairman Lim Huan Chiang said his group pays the hawkers $2 for each redeemed meal.

This works out to a total of $7,200 a month for the 120 residents.

It is a pilot project which will be reviewed after a year.

The aim is to provide at least one meal a day for Radin Mas residents under the Public Assistance (PA) scheme.
