| LOS ANGELES - HOLLYWOOD power couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated more than US$8 million (S$11 million) to charity in 2006 according to tax records, it was reported on Friday.
Fox News reported on its website that the actors funnelled more than US$4 million each to the Jolie Pitt Foundation, which was set up two years ago to aid humanitarian causes around the world. According to federal tax records, the foundation handed out around US$2.4 million in donations in 2006, including US$1 million each to both Doctors without Borders and the Global Aids Alliance. Other cash gifts included US$137,935 to the Namibia Red Cross Action Program, the country where the couple's biological daughter Shiloh was born. A donation of US$100,000 was also made to the Daniel Pearl Foundation, a trust set up to honour the former Wall Street Journal reporter murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan. Jolie played Pearl's widow Marianne in last year's acclaimed film 'A Mighty Heart.' In addition, 20,000 dollars was donated to an art park in Los Angeles while two orphanages visited by Jolie received US$5,000 each. Pitt, 44, and Jolie, 32, are currently reported to be expecting their second child. Pitt and Jolie met on the set of their 2005 film 'Mr and Mrs Smith' and later began a romantic relationship. Pitt was previously married to 'Friends' star Jennifer Aniston, while Jolie has been married twice before. -- AFP | |
