STI closes 1.26 % lower

SINGAPORE share prices closed 1.26 per cent lower on Tuesday as worries about the health of the US economy continued to haunt the market, dealers said.

They said investors were staying on the sidelines ahead of the Lunar New Year holidays.

The market will trade only half a day on Wednesday before a two-day holiday shutdown.

The blue chip Straits Times Index closed 38.66 points lower at 3,038.42. -- AFP
