Step-father charged with caning boy 100 times

A MAN who caned his son 100 times in a day was charged in court on Wednesday. The 38-year-old is accused of assaulting the 10-year-old child on Sept 15 last year. He allegedly caned the boy's buttocks, arms and back with two rattan canes. He was released on $10,000 bail. His passport was impounded, and as a condition of bail, he is not to hit the child any more. The man said he wished to engage a lawyer. The case is scheduled to be mentioned on April 2. If convicted under the Children and Young Persons Act, he can be fined up to $4,000 and jailed for up to four years. | |
