A 55-YEAR-OLD man was remanded for psychiatric assessment on Friday after he was accused of making a bomb hoax call.

Albert Ooi is alleged to have called 999 to say that there was a bomb at a unit in Block 217 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1 on Thursday.

The false message was apparently made from Block 218 at about 9.15pm that day.

If convicted, Ooi faces a maximum fine of up to $50,000 or a jail term of up to seven years or both.

He is due to return to court on Feb 15.
