Nepal police detain over 200 Tibetans trying to storm Chinese Embassy visa office
KATMANDU - Nepalese police say they have detained more than 200 Tibetan protesters who were trying to storm the Chinese Embassy visa office in Katmandu.

Thursday's protest was the latest in series of demonstrations by Tibetan exiles in Nepal and one of the largest in front of the Chinese Embassy's visa office. The office is in the heart of Nepalese capital of Katmandu.

About 300 protesters managed to slip past the police line and reached the fortified compound. Some managed to kick the metal gates while others threw banners and pieces of wood inside before police pushed them back.

Nepal has said it will not allow protests against China that might jeopardize close relations with its giant neighbor to the north. -- AP
