Nine killed in India temple stampede: police
BHOPAL (India) - AT LEAST nine people were killed and several others injured at a religious gathering in a Hindu temple in central India, police said on Thursday.

The stampede occurred late on Wednesday in a village in central Madhya Pradesh state when a railing broke at the premises, where more than 100,000 devotees had gathered for an annual religious festival.

Authorities have announced a compensation of 2,500 dollars each for families of the victims. -- AFP
