The VAIO VGN-TZ18GN is specially created to commemorate Sony VAIO's 10th anniversary. Powered by an Intel® CoreTM 2 Duo 1.20GHz processor, the VAIO TZ is the first notebook to feature a flash memory-based solid state disk of 32GB capacity. Weighing only 1.17kg, and with a compact footprint of 27.7 x 19.82 x 2.98cm (W x D x H), the TZ is 30% smaller than other similar notebooks. It has a fast boot-up time of 43 seconds and the TZ's move away from traditional hard disk storage also increases battery life by 40 minutes, achieving battery life of up to 11.5 hours.

Another breakthrough is the patented keyboard panel construction. The keyboard panel is unified with the notebook cabinet and this gives the notebook increased strength and durability. The use of carbon fibre reinforced plastics also enhances its robustness.

The TZ features a 11.1-inch TFT colour display that is capable of achieving 72% colour purity and enhanced brightness of up to 24%. This brings the picture quality close to that of a LCD TV, and also reduces power consumption by 30%.

To enable the TZ to keep its display ultra-thin at 0.47cm, while incorporating a built-in camera at the same time, the laptop features a super-thin camera module (0.3 megapixel MOTION EYE camera).

The VAIO TZ is available in Gold, Premium Carbon and Black. Price is $4499.
