| FOR a brief moment yesterday, the families of two men who were killed during a wild afternoon in Outram on Thursday, crossed paths.
They were in a mortuary to identify the bodies of the men, one-time friends who lost their lives in a stabbing and police shooting. Odd-job worker Tan Ah Chong was stabbed repeatedly in the chest while drinking at a hawker centre in Jalan Kukoh. Half an hour later, the prime suspect in the stabbing case, 43-year-old Lim Bock Song, was shot dead by a police officer at Outram Park MRT station. Lim had charged at two officers, wielding a 20cm-long knife. People at the Jalan Kukoh hawker centre said the two men had known each other for more than 20 years, although they recently had a falling out. Both families yesterday declined to discuss what was behind the bad blood. Mr Tan's niece said that her uncle was at the Block 1 Jalan Kukoh hawker centre 'just having drinks' on the day he was killed. The family was coping with his death, she said. His friends had earlier told The Straits Times that he was drinking beer with a few friends, including Lim, before the stabbing. The Straits Times understands that there will be no wake held for Mr Tan, 51, and the family has planned for his cremation on Sunday. The funeral arrangements for Lim are not known yet. | |
