A resident alerted the police at about 10am after spotting some men near the drain opening.

But the search - which had involved Special Operations Command (SOC) officers - was eventually called off at about 2pm when they could not find anyone.

By then, a crowd of curious residents had gathered near the search site, their interest piqued by the sight of the four bright red SOC vehicles parked along the road.
