Award for Emma Thompson and Ma
DAVOS (SWITZERLAND) - BRITISH actress Emma Thompson raced to the stage to receive the Crystal Award from the World Economic Forum for her humanitarian work, then gushed like someone who had not already won Academy, Emmy and Golden Globe awards.

'The brainpower in this room alone, well let's not even go there,' the 48-year-old told the audience of presidents, premiers and top CEOs.

'I love getting awards and haven't had one for ages,' she joked. The forum recognised her for her work in helping people suffering from Aids in Africa and raising awareness around the world.

Cellist Yo-Yo Ma, 52, was also honoured with the Crystal Award, which is given to artists who use their art to reach out to other cultures. He was recognised for his efforts to promote cultural exchange, in particular for his Silk Road project.

'I think it unwise to follow Emma Thompson with saying anything, so may I offer instead a little musical thanks?' he said. He chose a sarabande by Johann Sebastian Bach.
