| KUALA LUMPUR - FORMER All-England runner-up Lee Hyun Il reached the Malaysian Open Super Series men's badminton singles final by beating Danish seventh seed Kenneth Jonassen 21-15, 21-18 yesterday.
The unseeded South Korean will meet top seed Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in today's final. The Malaysian put out Chinese eighth seed Chen Yu 25-23, 21-11. Hyun Il has been training under China's highly rated coach Li Mao, who used to be with Chong Wei. In the women's final, Europe's hopes rest on unseeded Dane Tine Rasmussen, who will meet Chinese third seed Zhu Lin. Rasmussen swept past France's Pi Hongyan 21-12, 21-10 in the semi-finals, while Zhu defeated Malaysia's Wong Mew Choo 21-19, 21-12. Denmark can also scoop the men's doubles title, with Lars Paaske and Jonas Rasmussen facing second-seeded Indonesians Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan. The women's doubles final is an all-Chinese affair, as Gao Ling and Zhao Tingting face Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen. Chinese pair He Hanbin and Yu Fang take on South Korea's Lee Yong Dae and Lee Hyo Jung in the mixed doubles final. Reuters | |
