Water, water everywhere - In desert
| It was the most water residents in normally parched Fernley, Nevada, had ever seen, but they did not welcome it. A ruptured levee sent a frigid wall of water from a rain-swollen canal into the desert town 50km from Reno, flooding hundreds of homes. No injuries were reported in the flooding after a section of the Truckee Canal, up to 45m long, broke on Saturday.
To the west, a dangerous layer of heavy snow covered the Northern California mountains as rain and wind from the third storm in as many days hit the United States West Coast. | |
