Rain fails to dampen devotees' spirits
|
|
| Volunteers at Sri Mariamman Temple scramble to hoist up a canvas canopy to protect the fire pit from being quenched by the sudden downpour just minutes before the fire-walking ceremony started. However, the rain did not dampen the spirits of the hundreds of Hindus gathered at the temple in South Bridge Road to observe the annual fire-walking ceremony early yesterday morning. The devotees sang religious songs and waited for close to an hour before the rain subsided and the ceremony continued. | |
