Dispute over validity of SPP election of new CEC
Ex-chairman didn't hand in nomination papers and can't be re-elected, says former leader
A dispute has erupted over the validity of the Singapore People's Party (SPP) election of its new central executive committee (CEC) on Sunday.
The bone of contention: Can former SPP chairman Sin Kek Tong, who did not consent to be nominated to the new CEC, be re-elected?
No, says former SPP leader Benjamin Pwee, who announced his resignation from the party last Saturday.
He said Mr Sin's re-election did not follow party protocol agreed on about a month ago, thus calling into question the validity of the entire CEC election during the party conference.
