SASKATOON (Saskatchewan) - A LEADING researcher says one of the largest meteors to streak over Canada in the last decade broke up into pieces that may have landed in central Saskatchewan.

Planetary lecturer Alan Hildebrand from the University of Calgary said the meteor that lit up the skies earlier this week could likely be seen up to 700 kilometres away into the northern United States.

A 'shooting star' is the common name for the visible path of a meteoroid, which is a small particle of debris from the Solar system that enters the Earth's atmosphere. -- AP
