By Jonathan Wong

BYTE CII sailors Darren Choy, 15 and Najwa Jumali, 15, clinched Singapore's first sailing medals at the Asian Youth Games on Sunday.

Darren won his eighth of ten races on Sunday to stretch his lead to seven points over Thai Supakon Pongwichean, 14. With just one race remaining and an unused discard, the Singapore Sports School student cannot be caught by the Thai.

He said: 'I just tried to do my best and stay consistent throughout the regatta. It's a great result and I'm really happy to have won the gold medal.'

Despite her best efforts, which included another first place finish today, Najwa had to settle for the silver medal behind Thailand's Jittiwa Thanawitwilat, 13.

'I did my best and that's all I can ask for. My target was a top two finish and I'm happy to get that,' said Najwa.

In the Bic Techno 293 events, local windsurfer Audrey Yong, 14, is hanging to third place with just one race to go. She has 26 points and a three point lead over Hong Kong's Man Ka Kei.
