ASIAN YOUTH GAMES
Kazakhstan to face Thailand
By May Chen

AFTER four days of gruelling competition, Sunday's beach volleyball final will see only two countries fighting for the boys' and girls' gold medal.

Kazakhstan's Lyubov Bogatu and Bakhtygul Samalikova convincingly trounced their Indonesian opponents 21-18, 21-16 in the girls' semi-finals.

Teammates Sergey Bogatu and Vladislav Pustynnikov also booked their berths in the boys' final after beating Yemen 21-13, 23-25, 15-11.

Both the boys' and girls' team will face Thailand in the final.

Thailand's boys' duo of Warut Prasanok and Thosapol Puangprasert fought Indonesia down to the wire in a three-setter, eventually triumphing 21-15, 17-21, 15-11.

Prateep Kambut and Aunchalee Yansuwan, Thailand's girls' pairing, overcame pre-tournament favourites China 17-21, 21-17, 15-12. They may only be able to converse in simple and truncated English words, but a language barrier could not contain the Kazakh team's joy.

'English, no good. Match - good, good,' said an ecstastic Bakhtygul, 16.

The team have yet to come up with a gameplan for the fight against Thailand on Sunday, but said that they will look at videos of the Thai team in order to come up with a suitable tactic.

And despite losing out to the Kazakh girls, Indonesia's Dhanis Elvina and Dhita Yuliana were still all smiles.

Said Dhanis, 16: 'Our aim was to make it to the last eight, so we're still happy with our performance. It's also been a treat, seeing the different tactics and playing style of different countries.'
