AFTER opening their Asian Youth Games campaign on a losing note against the Chinese behemoths on Wednesday, Singapore's boys basketball team crushed Uzbekistan 34-9 in their Group D match on Thursday at Anglican High School. The Republic raced to a 14-0 lead in the first period and never looked back. Although towering centre Russel Low was double-teamed by the aggressive Uzbeks, that only left space for skilful play by captain Jabez Su and sharp-shooter Larry Liew, who executed a series of brilliant three-pointers to rack up the points. The match was sealed mid-way through the third and final period after an emphatic three-pointer by Larry. Singapore will meet the impressive Indian team on Friday for a spot in the quarter-finals. | |
