ASIAN YOUTH GAMES
Table tennis games held back
By Valerie Chia

SINGAPOREAN paddlers Tay Jit Kiat and Clarence Chew were set to start their Asian Youth Games campaign against the Philippines in the mixed team event earlier on Wednesday.

But their match was postponed.

Both boys were prevented from taking part in the competition and asked to leave the Toa Payoh Sports Hall, for they had been identified by the Singapore Asian Youth Games Organising Committee to have been in contact with a confirmed Influenza A (H1N1) case.

A press release from SAYGOC said the confirmed case is not a member of the Singapore AYG team table tennis team.

Subsequent checks and contact tracing showed Jit Kiat and Clarence did not have sustained exposure to the confirmed case during the infectious period.

The boys have since been cleared from being a close contact to the case and will not have to be quarantined.

They will resume play in the mixed team event at 4.45pm on Wednesday against the Philippines and at 5.45pm against Nepal.
