Williams move up a gear
FORMER champions Williams looked forward to Formula One's first night race with renewed hope on Saturday after both their drivers qualified in the top 10 for the first time this season.

Germany's Nico Rosberg will start the inaugural Singapore Grand Prix in eighth place while team mate Kazuki Nakajima qualified 10th.

'It was a great qualifying session for me today,' the Japanese driver told reporters.

'The team gave me a very good car and we have been very competitive here in all sessions, so we just need to make a good start tomorrow and maintain our competitiveness to the end.'

Ferrari's Felipe Massa will start in pole position with championship leader Lewis Hamilton of McLaren in second spot.

Rosberg, who started fifth at Monza two weeks ago, was a little less thrilled by his position.

'Nevertheless, it's good for the team to have both cars in the top 10 and it will help us get into a position to score points,' he said.

'Even though we might not see too much overtaking, whatever happens tomorrow, I think it is going to be an exciting race.

'The start through turn one, the battle through the pit-stops and the visual spectacle of all the cars racing through the night is going to be stunning.'

Toyota-powered Williams are languishing in eighth place overall, having scored just one point in their last five races after starting the season on a high with Rosberg's third place in Australia. -- REUTERS
