FOUR primary schools will be upgraded from 2011 to 2013 as part of the Ministry of Education's (MOE) continuing efforts to renew and support schools. The facelift for Canossa Convent Primary School, De La Salle School, Seng Kang Primary and Woodlands Ring Primary School will come under the 11th phase of the Programme for Rebuilding and Improving Existing Schools (Prime). An MOE statement on Friday said they will be upgraded to the latest standard to enable them to provide a conducive learning environment for students, as well as to enable these four schools to transit to single-session. Another 20 primary and secondary schools are due for upgrading over the next few years. Under Prime, schools will have more classrooms and be fitted with new or upgraded facilities including media resource libraries, IT learning resource rooms and pastoral care rooms. Schools undergoing Prime will also benefit from the Flexible School Infrastructure (FlexSI) framework and get an indoor sports hall. Prime was launched in May 1999 to upgrade all schools in phases, at an estimated cost of $4.5 billion. To date, 251 schools have been included in the earlier phases, and of these, 227 schools have completed their upgrading. | |
