H1N1 FLU PANDEMIC
Confirmed cases hit 701

SEVENTY-TWO new cases of the H1N1 virus were confirmed on Tuesday night, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 701.

Investigations are underway as to how the new infections came about.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) assured Singaporeans that most of the cases are mild. To date, 281 patients have fully recovered and the rest are recuperating.

MOH added that members of the public should carry on with their usual activities whilst observing good personal hygiene and social responsibility at all times.

This includes seeing a doctor if unwell, and staying away from work, school or crowded places to rest at home.

The Ministry stressed the importance of being socially responsible and exercising good hygiene practices.

'This will go a long way in protecting ourselves, our families and at-risk groups of people who are more vulnerable to developing complications from H1N1.'

Those planning to travel are encouraged to be informed of global developments so as to take the necessary precautions.

The list of countries with confirmed cases and/or exported H1N1 cases is available on MOH's website at www.moh.gov.sg.
