Tweetups now the way to go
By Shuli Sudderuddin

WHEN Mr Kevin Lee wanted to gather a group of like-minded people for a social photography session, the businessman did not reach for his mobile phone.

He used social networking platform Twitter instead.

The meeting, held on Saturday at Dunlop Street, saw over 30 photography enthusiasts and Twitter users taking photos of each other.

'I thought it would be great to bring the fun back to photography and to meet the people I only know from Twitter,' said Mr Lee, 29.

Said photographer Wong Kin Leong, 35, who attended the event: 'It's a great way to meet people. Over 70 per cent of the people here are new to me.'

Twitter-organised meet-ups, known as Tweetups, have started to gather steam in Singapore as more people make use of the platform.

Twitter is a form of online instant messaging where people post messages of up to 140 characters.

Tweetups can be organised via Twitter or a Facebook application that allows users to merge both Facebook and Twitter.

Facebook, also a social networking platform, allows users to network and keep in touch with their friends by uploading photos and information about themselves.

Other websites such as twtvite.com can also be used to create Tweetup invites.
