IT IS all systems go when schools re-open on Monday after the four-week June break during which the Influenza A (H1N1) virus hogged headlines and measures were taken to prevent its spread.

The Sunday Times contacted 50 schools and all said they were geared up to follow guidelines provided by the Ministry of Education (MOE) or Ministry of Health (MOH).

The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore also said it will be following MOE's guidelines for its madrasahs, which also re-start their terms on Monday.

Raffles Girls' Primary School, for example, has intensified the cleaning of its premises.

Ms Elsie S.H. Tan, vice principal (administration) of Anderson Primary School, said the school has contacted its staff as well as pupils' parents and guardians to get an update on their travel history.

Those who have travelled to affected countries since June 22 should stay at home for seven days before returning to school. The affected areas include Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Thailand, Britain and the United States.

A spokesman for St Andrews Junior College said assembly sessions will be suspended and co-curricular activities scaled back during the first week to minimise contact. Recess will also be staggered.
