AN UNLOCKED apartment door in Queen Street allowed an opportunistic thief to steal $6,000 from a 68-year-old woman on Thursday afternoon.

The woman was home at about 2pm that day when she heard a voice from outside her flat telling her that her flowerpot had fallen to the floor.

She then went outside to tend to it, leaving the door unlocked. She also saw another flowerpot left further along the common corridor, and went to pick that up as well.

It was about 20 minutes later that she remembered she had left her door unlocked, and rushed back to check on her belongings.

She discovered that $6,000 cash had been taken from one of her drawers, as well as some personal belongings.
