SINGAPORE FOOD FESTIVAL
Cook on a floating kitchen
IN FACT, not just a floating one. The kitchen will also be cruising down the Singapore River as local celebrity chef Violet Oon shows you how to make a sizzling Roti Jala (lace pancake) with chicken or beef curry. This cooking class onboard a bumboat is one of the highlights of this year's Singapore Food Festival, which will return to Clarke Quay for its 16th edition from 17 to 26 July. This year, the spotlight is on Peranakan cuisine. While foodies can get their stomachs ready for more than a thousand Peranakan dishes and other ethnic cuisines during the 10-day food bazaar, those who would like to learn dishing up their own Peranakan feast can also join a series of culinary workshops, conducted by local Peranakan chefs like Violet Oon, Jolly Wee, Peter Wee, Joe Yap, Shirley Tay and others. The chefs will be sharing their highly-guarded family recipes for dishes including Tohay, Ikan Chilli Garam, Kueh Pie Tee and many others. RazorTV joined local food doyen Violet Oon on the Singapore River bumboat cruise as she rehearsed for her cooking demonstration. She also gave us a lowdown on what to expect at this year's Singapore Food Festival. Find out more in these clips. | |
