AN UNEMPLOYED man was so annoyed at the sound of a car horning that he tossed a bicycle pump onto the car park. George Maria Watts, 54, was jailed 13 weeks by a district court on Monday to endangering the safety of other people. He pleaded guilty to throwing the bicycle pump from his third floor flat in Tanglin Halt Road at 6.45 pm on Jan 28. Mr Brendan Koh Thian Soo, a 33-year-old resident had gone down to drive his wife's car when he noticed the bicycle pump nearby. It had landed on the Mitsubishi Lancer but the court was not given any details of the damage. Minutes later, Watts came down and demanded that Mr Koh not park there any more. An argument broke out and Mr Koh called the police, telling them that Watts had smashed his car. A psychiatric report form the Institute of Mental Health indicated that at the time of the offence Watts had suffered a relapse of schizophrenia as he had stopped taking his medicine. However, he was not of unsound mind and should be dealt with, it added. A second charge of using abusive words on Mr Koh was considered by the judge when deciding on the sentence. | |
