Jailed for duping bank client
By Khushwant Singh
TO GET a client to invest in unit trusts two years ago, a relationship manager with the United Overseas Bank (UOB) lied about the dividend payments.

Lynette Ng Pei Ling, 29, also guaranteed that the investment capital would appreciate and then forged a letter supposedly from UOB confirming these benefits.

The 29-year-old was jailed for three months on Wednesday for cheating and forgery. She had pleaded guilty on June 5.

Then, the court heard that Ng had assured Mr Lok Kok Seng that his $150,000 investment in the Barclays Bonus Select Income Fund in July 2007 would earn 10 per cent dividend annually over five years.

She also promised him that his investment capital would appreciate from the sixth year and listed this in his copy of the form to purchase the unit trusts.

The 39-year-old investor signed up.

He demanded similar assurances from her bank and Ng forged her team-leader's signature on a letter supposedly from UOB.

When the dividends never arrived, Mr Lok checked with UOB and Ng's deception was exposed.

A police report was made in March last year). By then, the investment had suffered a $10,570 loss.

She has made restitution for Mr Lok's loss.
