Emirates sponsor S'pore Derby
By Christopher Ong
THE Emirates on Wednesday announced their continued sponsorship of the $1 million Emirates Singapore Derby.

Their support of this year's 2,000m race, now in its 14th edition and a mainstay in Singapore's equestrian scene, will see them continue as the Singapore Turf Club's longest-standing sponsor.

The race will be held on July 12 July at the Singapore Racecourse.

Said Mr Stephen Chu, Emirates' Country Manager for Singapore and Brunei: 'I think it has been a very fruitful 14 years for us.'

On the decision to continue their sponsorship despite the difficult economic conditions, he explained: 'The Singapore Derby is now synonymous with the Emirates' brand.'

Moreover, Mr Chu felt that Emirates' sponsorship is about corporate social responsibility. Hence, they hope to raise $150,000 for four voluntary welfare organisations under the umbrella of the Community Chest.

'In hard times like this, charities need more support. By sharing our support, others will also come forward,' he said.
