Hot IT deals at PC show
TECHIES and bargain hunters will be thronging Suntec Singapore again when The PC Show returns for its 19th year, starting on Thursday. On offer: Toshiba's new NB200 netbook model at only $799, $100 off the usual retail price. Microsoft is giving discounts on several of its new gaming peripherals, including the SideWinder X8 gaming mouse at $109.90, instead of $139. Organiser Lines Exposition and Management Services said that it expects the four-day show to draw 1.1 million visitors - the same as last year. Lines Exposition also said that a recent survey showed most respondents plan to spend at least $600 on IT purchases for the next six months. About 40 per cent of those respondents said they will be spending at least $1,000. To ensure public security and for crowd management at The PC Show, Suntec Singapore said it has engaged the services of the auxiliary police who will 'work hand in hand with our own security personnel'. This is on top of the additional security personnel recruited by Lines Exposition. Ms Gillian Loh, project manager of Lines Exposition, told my paper that the company expects a good crowd this year as budget-conscious shoppers will check out the promotions at The PC Show. 'This year, exhibitors are definitely offering more attractive bundles to make deals more enticing for consumers,' said Ms Loh, explaining that more new IT gadgets are on offer. SingTel, one of the show's largest exhibitors, said it is offering more attractive deals this year, compared to those last year. Mr Shane Da Silva, its vice-president of consumer sales, told my paper the reason for that is because 'we feel there is a growing trend towards mega-events and are taking the opportunity to attract customers with these deals to give them good value'. He added that across multiple products from broadband to mobile phones like touchscreen phones, discounts of up to 50 per cent or more could be enjoyed, aside from bundled deals. -- MY PAPER | |
