Every bling tells a story
AS A child, 62-year-old Peter Wee used to try and sneak into his Peranakan grandmother's room to catch a glimpse of her preparing for a party. The nonya's rituals included styling her hair and choosing her ornate jewellery.

The young Mr Wee would try to peer through the curtains, but was always shooed away.

But now, the curtains to Singapore's glittering Peranakan heritage have been swept back in a special exhibition called Baba Bling: The Peranakans And Their Jewellery, which started yesterday and runs till Dec 13.

The exhibition of over 300 items of jewellery is on at the Peranakan Museum and the highlights include a display of 12 sets of diamond-encrusted brooches called kerosang.
