PUBLIC transport operator SMRT will roll out its first wheelchair accessible bus services from Monday. Passengers in wheelchairs may board these services, which are equipped with wheelchair-friendly buses that come with low floor boards and ramps. The services are: 171, 811, 851, 172, 307, 189 and 945. One in two buses on each of these routes will be wheelchair-accessible. Each bus can take up to two wheelchair-bound passengers. Stopping at various hospitals and polyclinics, the bus services will make it easier for wheelchair-bound commuters to get to their medical appointments. SMRT said works were carried out at Yishun, Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Batok bus interchanges to enable wheelchair-bound commuters to board the services. The operator added that it will roll out more wheelchair accessible services later this year when it adds another 66 wheelchair-friendly buses to its fleet by year-end. | |
