Ask Libby@STOMP
GOT a burning question you don?t know the answer to? Ask Libby.

Formerly known as Ask ST, Ask Libby is a new and improved version of the popular question-and-answer service of STOMP, the social networking and citizen journalism website of The Straits Times.

The revamped service is a collaboration between STOMP and the Public Libraries Singapore.

The name of the service's owl mascot, Libby, is derived from the word 'library'. The owl reflects knowledge and wisdom.

To use the service, netizens simply have to send in questions on any subject to STOMP.

Unlike Internet search engines that churn out thousands of articles for a single query, the Ask Libby service offers readers answers tailored to their specific questions.

A team of librarians from the National Library Board (NLB) will provide the answer, using reliable and authoritative library and other external resources. Replies will be posted on STOMP within three working days.

Said Ms Tay Ai Cheng, Senior Director, Public Library Services: 'Through Ask Libby, we hope to provide individuals with targeted knowledge and information in their pursuit of lifelong learning.

'This will help showcase the key role of librarians as knowledge navigators in the new economy.'

STOMP's editor, Mr Chew V Ming, added: 'Working with the public libraries will really add value to this reader service on our site.

'The launch of Ask Libby is part of Stomp's continuing efforts to engage and inform the website's expanding online community.'

The Ask Libby service can be accessed at www.stomp.com.sg.
