AN ENGINEER who took a video clip of a woman colleague bathing in a cubicle was jailed for one month on Wednesday. Tan Wee Lai, 34, pleaded guilty to intruding on the privacy of the 27-year-old woman at the Jurong office on Oct 24 last year. A Community Court heard that he did it three times before the victim spotted the camera and screamed. He first walked past the restroom while the victim was bathing and went to his desk one floor down to get his digital camera. He placed his camera underneath the door and turned on the video function to capture the victim as she showered. He then walked out of the restroom and entered the men's restroom to review the video. After identifying the victim, he felt the urge to film her again and repeated the act. On the third occasion, the victim saw the camera and screamed. He then ran out. The police were called in but nothing incriminating was found on anyone that day. Tan returned home and downloaded his footage onto his hard disk. He was captured on CCTV and arrested four days later. Tan, who was suffering from dysthymia, a type of low-grade depression, had a second charge of criminal trespass considered. He and the victim are no longer with the company. He could have been jailed for up to one year and fined for the offence. | |
