Pump prices up again
| By Christopher Tan | |
PUMP prices have risen again - the second time in less than two weeks. Wednesday's round of hikes brings petrol and diesel five cents a litre higher, with the exception of Caltex's 92-octane. It rose by four cents, to $1.637 a litre before discount. The price of 95-octane, the most popular grade here, is now $1.677 a litre. And 98-octane is $1.78. Caltex's Platinum 98, touted as an equivalent to Shell?s so-called ultra-premium V-Power, is retailing at $1.78 a litre. V-Power is $1.959 a litre. Diesel, used largely by commercial vehicles and taxis, is now $1.263 a litre before discount. With the latest adjustment, the price of petrol has gone up by more than 10 cents a litre - or $7 a full tank for the average family sedan. The spike comes on the back of rising oil prices. Crude oil for July delivery shot past US$60 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange to hit a six-month high of US$60.65. It was around US$50 less than a fortnight ago. As at 5.50pm on Wednesday, Singapore Petroleum Company was the only one which has not raised pump prices. However, it is expected to do so soon. | |
