A MINIMART has been fined a total of $6,000 for operating a meat processing establishment without a licence and having two unlicensed coldroom stores.

A representative of Hanifa Minimart pleaded guilty to three charges under the Wholesome Meat and Fish Act at a night court on Tuesday.

The company admitted using one of the premises for meat processing and two other premises along Geylang Serai as a cold store without a licence on April 3.

Hanifa Minimart, located opposite the Geylang Serai temporary market, had occasionally sold meat to the Rojak Geylang Serai stall, which is behind what is possibly Singapore's worst case of mass food poisoning.

More than 100 people were sickened and two women died after eating at the stall.

There is no official finding that Hanifa's products were responsible for the food poisoning.

The company could have been fined $10,000 on each of the three charges.
