| EIGHT awards will be handed out to building projects in this year's Building and Construction Authority's (BCA) Construction Execellence Awards ceremony on May 27.
Of the 15 projects nominated, six will be presented awards and two with certificates, said BCA in a statement on Monday. This annual competition, first started in 1986, recognises builders' workmanship, focusing on downstream post-design work, such as project management, technical capability and quality of the completed project. Five of the eight winners are private residential developments, which have shown notable improvement in the quality of the projects and performance. For instance, top local builder, Woh Hup, which clinched two awards for its projects Blossoms@Woodleigh and ICON this year, has clearly benefited from the BCA Quality Mark for Good Workmanship Scheme. Both projects, which have high standards of workmanship, achieved distinctions with over 90 Construction Quality Assessment System points (CONQUAS). The BCA Quality Mark scheme seeks to ensure the consistent delivery of quality homes. Building projects that received the BCA Quality Mark have scored much higher in CONQUAS and received little or less feedback on defects from homeowners. Thus, potential major defects and leakages in about five per cent of total units assessed were detected and rectified before the units were handed over to homeowners, thus reducing any unhappiness and inconvenience to homeowners. The other winning projects are St Regis Hotel, Residences @ Evelyn, Citylights Condominium, The Tresor, Ferry Terminal at Marina Coastal Drive and 36 Kaki Bukit Place. The winners will receive their awards from Senior Minister of State for National Development and Education Grace Fu next Wednesday. | |
