Four die in collision
By Teh Joo Lin

FOUR foreign workers died in an early morning collision on Monday between a lorry they were in and a trailer in Gul Road, near Tuas.

Three were killed on the spot and another died later at the National University Hospital. Six other workers on the lorry were injured and being treated at NUH.

The lorry was said to be heading to a shipyard in Tuas for inspection services when it collided with the trailer at 4am.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the traffic accident at 4.06am.

It rushed two fire engines, two support appliances and three ambulances to the scene.

On arrival, SCDF rescuers found the front passenger's cabin of the lorry badly crushed, pinning the passenger, who was already unconscious.

SCDF men used a hydraulic spreader and cutter and two winches to free the casualty from the wreckage. He was pronounced dead by paramedics. Two other rear passengers died at the scene.

Seven others, including the lorry driver, were sent to NUH. One died later.

The dead workers were believed to be Indians and Bangladeshis.

Police are investigating.
